In and around Wimborne Minster there is a wide variey of schools covering 2 separate local authorities, East Dorset District Council and Poole Borough Council.
The state school system is structured in 3 tiers:
- First schools: 5-9 years
- Middle schools: 9-13 years
- Upper schools: 13-18 years
In addition, the Grammar Schools available are:
- Poole Grammar School For Boys: 12-18 years
- Parkstone Grammar School for Girls: 12-18 years
- Bournemouth School for Boys and Girls: 12-18 years
Also, several Catholic schools which take children from ages 5-11 and 11-18, including St. Catherine's Roman Catholic School, Cutlers Place, Wimborne and St. Peter's Roman Catholic School in Holdenhurst Avenue, Bournemouth and St. Catherines Road in Bournemouth.
There are also excellent preparatory schools for boys and girls, namely Dumpton at Furzehill and Castle Court at Corfe Mullen.
The main public schools in the area are Canford School, at Canford Magna, Bryanston at Blandford Forum, and Clayesmore School at Iwerne Minster.
In addition, there are many nurseries and pre-schools, and a selection of Montessori Schools.
